Glossary

Key terms and conventions frequently mentioned in Alethia documentation

Core Concepts

Host

A server that provides access to one or more sources. You connect to a host by entering its URL in the app. A single host can offer multiple sources.

Source

A content provider accessible through a host. Each source connects to a different library of titles (e.g., MangaDex, Batoto). Sources are what you search and browse for content.

Origin

When a title exists on multiple sources, each version is called an origin. You can add multiple origins to the same title in your library to access chapters from different sources.

Collection

A user-created group for organizing titles in your library. Examples: "Currently Reading", "Favorites", "Completed".


Reading

Chapter

A single installment of a series. Chapters contain one or more pages.

Scanlator

The group that translated and edited a chapter. Some sources show scanlator information, and you can filter chapters by scanlator.

Reading Mode/Reading Direction

The order pages are read:

  • Left-to-right (LTR) — Western comics style
  • Right-to-left (RTL) — Traditional manga style
  • Vertical - Scroll up and down through pages in a paginated format
  • Infinite - Infinite vertical scroll of all pages in a chapter without page breaks

Tracking

Tracker

An external service that tracks your reading progress (currently supports AniList, MyAnimeList).

Linked Title

A title in your library that's connected to an entry on a tracker. Progress syncs between Alethia and the tracker.


Technical

Preset

A predefined search filter provided by a source. Presets let you quickly browse categories like "Popular" or "Latest Updates".
